High-performance Sterling marine engine for Bergen Performance Marine extreme power packages

Serious power deserves a serious process.

Bergen Performance Marine is teaming up with Sterling Engines to give performance-minded boaters throughout the NYC Metro area, Northern New Jersey, New York and the surrounding Tri-State region a direct path to professionally engineered high-performance marine power.

This is not a one-size-fits-all engine sale. Bergen Performance Marine offers an à la carte or complete turnkey program that can take a customer from the first conversation about horsepower and performance goals all the way through engine removal, coordination with Sterling, shipping, rebuild or performance work, dyno validation, reinstallation, re-rigging, commissioning and getting the boat back on the water.

For owners who want more speed, stronger acceleration, modernized power, a properly sorted rebuild or a complete performance transformation, the Bergen Performance Marine × Sterling Engines relationship puts the local boat owner and the engine builder on the same team.

One Project. Two Performance Specialists.

Building a high-output marine package involves much more than choosing a horsepower number. The engine, drive, fuel system, cooling system, exhaust, electrical system, controls, rigging and intended use all need to work together.

Bergen Performance Marine acts as the customer's local project partner while maintaining a direct connection with Sterling Engines for specifications and build requirements. That means the conversation does not stop at the engine crate. We work through the vessel application, the customer's goals and the supporting systems required to create a complete package.

Whether the boat needs a full-service turnkey project or only selected portions of the process, BPM can tailor the job around the customer and the vessel.

BPM's À La Carte Sterling Performance Program

Every boat and every owner is different. Our program is designed so customers can use Bergen Performance Marine for the entire project or select the services they need.

1. Initial Performance Consultation

The project starts with the boat—not a catalog page. Bergen Performance Marine reviews the vessel, current engine and drive configuration, existing rigging, intended use and the owner's performance goals.

We discuss what the customer wants from the boat: stronger acceleration, improved reliability, more top-end performance, a complete refresh of aging power, or a purpose-built high-performance package.

2. Direct Specification Coordination With Sterling Engines

Once the goals are established, BPM works directly with Sterling Engines to help develop the appropriate engine specifications for the application.

That direct communication helps ensure the engine build and the boat installation are being planned together. Important details such as the existing power package, drive configuration, operating RPM, fuel delivery, cooling, exhaust, controls and intended duty cycle can be addressed before the engine goes back into the boat.

3. Engine Removal at Bergen Performance Marine

For rebuild and upgrade projects, Bergen Performance Marine can handle removal of the existing engine and document the current installation before it leaves the boat.

This is an important part of the process. It gives us the opportunity to identify aging mounts, hoses, wiring, fuel-system components, controls, exhaust components and other supporting systems that may need attention before significantly upgraded power is reinstalled.

4. Preparation and Shipment to Sterling

BPM can coordinate preparation and shipment of the engine to Sterling Engines for the agreed rebuild, refresh or performance work. Instead of the boat owner having to manage multiple vendors independently, Bergen Performance Marine remains involved as the local point of contact throughout the project.

5. Sterling Build and Dyno Validation

This is where the engine package is proven before it returns to the boat. Sterling completes the engine work and provides dyno data from the completed build.

For a performance customer, that matters. The goal is not to install an engine based on assumptions. Dyno information gives the customer and installer documented data from the engine builder before final installation and commissioning.

6. Return to BPM, Reinstallation and Re-Rigging

Once the completed engine returns, Bergen Performance Marine takes the project back over at the boat.

Depending on the application, that can include:

  • Engine installation and alignment
  • Engine mounts and installation hardware
  • Fuel-system inspection or upgrades
  • Cooling-system plumbing
  • Exhaust-system integration
  • Electrical and battery connections
  • Engine harnesses and controls
  • Instrumentation and helm integration
  • Holley EFI integration or related performance electronics where applicable
  • Drive and propulsion-system coordination
  • General engine-room re-rigging and cleanup

The result is more than a rebuilt engine. It is a properly integrated power package designed around the vessel.

7. Commissioning, Testing and Back on the Water

After installation, BPM completes the required setup, inspection and testing for the project. The final goal is straightforward: turn the finished Sterling engine into a finished boat.

That means the customer does not have to find one shop to remove the engine, another company to ship it, another builder to complete the engine, and then another installer to figure out how to put everything back together. Bergen Performance Marine can manage the process from the boat to Sterling and back to the water.

From Rebuilds to Extreme Power Packages

Not every Sterling project has the same goal. Some customers want to restore confidence in a tired power package. Others want to take a performance boat to an entirely different level.

Depending on the vessel and application, the conversation may include:

  • Performance-oriented engine rebuilds
  • Complete high-output inboard packages
  • Modernized fuel and engine-management systems
  • Holley EFI integration
  • Whipple-supercharged applications where appropriate for the build
  • Supporting fuel, electrical, cooling and exhaust upgrades
  • Complete engine-room re-rigging
  • Propulsion and drive-system compatibility planning

The purpose of the program is not simply to chase a horsepower number. It is to build the complete combination required to use that power correctly.

Why the BPM × Sterling Connection Matters for NYC Metro Boaters

For boaters in the New York City Metro market, access to a top-tier performance engine builder can still leave a major logistical gap: who handles the boat itself?

Bergen Performance Marine closes that gap. Customers have a local marine performance shop that can evaluate the vessel, remove the power, coordinate directly with Sterling, manage the return installation and re-rigging, and get the finished boat operational again.

That is especially valuable on custom and high-performance boats where the quality of the installation is just as important as the engine build.

Our Interview With Sterling Owner Cade Wilson at the Atlantic City Offshore Grand Prix

This partnership is built around people who are genuinely involved in performance boating. This past June 2026, Bergen Performance Marine caught up with Sterling Engines owner Cade Wilson at the Atlantic City Offshore Grand Prix to talk performance, Sterling power and what the relationship means for boaters in our market.

A Local Shop With a Direct Line to Serious Marine Power

The advantage for our customers is simple: you do not have to coordinate the entire project yourself.

Bergen Performance Marine can be involved from the first specification discussion through the final sea trial. Sterling focuses on building and validating the power. BPM focuses on making that power work correctly in the boat.
