Marine Bottom Paint — Antifouling Protection for Your Hull

Bottom paint is one of the most important maintenance products for any boat kept in the water. Without antifouling protection, barnacles, algae, and marine growth attach to your hull within weeks, dramatically increasing drag, reducing fuel efficiency, and causing long-term damage to your gelcoat or hull material. Types of Bottom Paint

• Ablative (Self-Polishing) Antifouling: The most popular type for recreational boaters. The paint slowly wears away as the boat moves through the water, continuously exposing fresh biocide. Works well for boats used regularly. Can be recoated without sanding.
• Hard (Modified Epoxy) Antifouling: A durable, hard finish that doesn't ablate. Best for boats that sit in the water for long periods or are trailered frequently. Can be burnished for a smoother surface. Requires sanding between coats.
• Aluminum-Safe Antifouling: Specially formulated without copper biocides, which are toxic to aluminum hulls. Required for aluminum boats and outdrives.
• Freshwater Antifouling: Lower biocide concentrations formulated for freshwater environments where zebra mussels and algae are the primary fouling organisms.

Application Tips

• Apply at least 2 coats for adequate protection, 3 coats in high-fouling areas
• Apply the final coat within 24–72 hours of launching for best results
• Use a roller for large areas and a brush for edges and waterline detail
• Always wear appropriate PPE — bottom paint contains biocides that require respiratory and skin protection
