Winterizing
Boat Winterizing Supplies — Protect Your Investment Through the Off-Season
Proper winterization is the single most important maintenance task you can do to protect your boat engine, plumbing, and hull from freeze damage. Skipping winterization — or doing it incorrectly — can result in cracked engine blocks, burst hoses, and thousands of dollars in repairs. Bergen Performance Marine carries everything you need to winterize your boat correctly, whether you're doing it yourself or prepping for a professional service.
Essential Winterizing Products
- Engine Fogging Oil: Sprayed into carburetors and intake manifolds to coat internal engine components with a protective oil film that prevents corrosion during storage.
- Antifreeze (Non-Toxic Marine): Propylene glycol-based antifreeze is flushed through raw water cooling systems, livewells, bilges, and plumbing to prevent freeze damage. Never use automotive antifreeze on a boat.
- Fuel Stabilizer: Added to the fuel tank before storage to prevent ethanol separation, varnish buildup, and fuel degradation over the winter months.
- Gear Lube & Engine Oil: Change lower unit gear lube and engine oil before storage to remove water and combustion byproducts that cause corrosion from the inside out.
- Corrosion Inhibitors & Protectants: Spray-on protectants for electrical connections, battery terminals, and metal surfaces exposed to moisture.
- Shrink Wrap & Covers: Protect your boat's interior, upholstery, and electronics from moisture, UV, and debris during outdoor storage.
- Battery Maintainers: Keep batteries at optimal charge during storage to extend their life and ensure a reliable start in the spring.
Winterizing by Engine Type
- Outboard: Flush with fresh water, fog cylinders, stabilize fuel, change gear lube, remove and store battery.
- Inboard/Sterndrive: Flush raw water system with antifreeze, fog engine, change oil and gear lube, stabilize fuel, drain water from exhaust manifolds.
Don't wait until the last minute — winterize before the first freeze. Bergen Performance Marine has all the supplies you need for a complete, professional-quality winterization.
