Interlux Micron CSC Antifouling Bottom Paint
Interlux Micron CSC is a premium ablative bottom paint engineered for superior protection against marine growth.
Powered by Micron Technology, this self-polishing formula gradually wears away over time, consistently exposing fresh antifouling agents to prevent algae, barnacles, and other marine organisms. This is like many other paints in the Interlux line. Unlike conventional coatings, Micron CSC minimizes excessive paint buildup, reducing the need for frequent sanding and maintenance.
A key advantage of Micron CSC is its long-lasting effectiveness, even after extended dry storage. Boats can be hauled out and relaunched without requiring a fresh coat, making it an ideal choice for seasonal storage or trailer-kept vessels. Micron CSC adheres securely to fiberglass, wood, and properly primed metal surfaces, though it is not recommended for aluminum hulls or fittings.
Whether your vessel is moored year-round or stored on land, Micron CSC delivers exceptional antifouling performance for a hassle-free boating experience.
Features
Superior Multi-Season Protection
Designed for powerboats and sailboats, Micron bottom paint delivers consistent antifouling performance across a wide range of marine environments, providing year-round defense against fouling.
Matte Finish for a Clean Look
Micron CSC provides a smooth, matte finish, ensuring a sleek appearance while offering maximum protection below the waterline.
Self-Polishing Ablative Formula
Interlux Micron CSC gradually wears away as the boat moves, revealing fresh layers of biocide (37.2% Cuprous oxide) to combat marine growth continuously. This means:
- No unnecessary buildup of old paint layers
- Minimal sanding between repaints
- Less maintenance and easier touch-ups
Ideal for Haul-Outs and Relaunching
Unlike many antifouling coatings, Micron bottom paint remains effective even after haul-outs, making it a smart choice for seasonal storage, trailered boats, and dry-stored vessels.
Easy Application and Fast Drying
The bottom paint can be applied using a brush, roller, or spray, and it dries quickly for minimal downtime. Its high film-build formula also delivers durability and longevity in every coat.
Environmentally Responsible
Micron CSC is a more eco-conscious alternative to traditional bottom paints, with its low solvent emissions and high solids composition.

Application and Coverage
For optimal performance, apply a minimum of two coats. Areas exposed to higher water friction, such as chines, rudders, stern gear, and leading edges, should receive an additional stripe coat.
Micron CSC bottom paint can be applied using a roller, brush, or spray. Each coat should have a dry film thickness of 2 mils and cover approximately 439.7 square feet per gallon.
For best results, apply in temperatures between 50°F and 90°F. If thinning is needed, use Brush-Ease 433 or Special Thinner 216.
Drying and Recoat Times
- 90°F: Dries to touch in 1 hour, ready to recoat or launch in 16 hours.
- 70°F: Dries to touch in 4 hours, ready to recoat or launch in 16 hours.
- 50°F: Dries to touch in 4 hours, ready to recoat or launch in 16 hours.
Surface Preparation
Previously Painted Surfaces
- If the existing paint is intact, sand lightly with 80-grit sandpaper to remove dust and loose paint, then clean thoroughly.
- If the paint is peeling or deteriorated, strip away the damaged layers using Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E before repainting.
Bare Fiberglass
Proper surface preparation is critical to ensure strong adhesion and prevent delamination.
- Clean the surface with soap, water, and a stiff brush, then rinse to remove all residue.
- Eliminate any mold-release wax using Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 or Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601V, following manufacturer instructions.
- Use Interlux Watertite to repair imperfections and surface flaws as needed.
- Choose between two priming options:
- No-Sand System: Apply Fiberglass No-Sand Primer or InterProtect 2000E as per label instructions.
- Sanding System: Use 80-grit sandpaper to create a dull, textured surface, then wipe away debris before painting.
Bare Wood
- Smooth the surface with 80-grit sandpaper, then clean away dust with Brush Ease 433.
- For the initial coat, use Special Thinner 216to thin the paint by 10%.
- If gaps or seams need sealing, apply Seam Compound Brown 30 as required.
Important Notes
- Not suitable for aluminum hulls or fittings.
- Do not apply over tin-based copolymer antifouling paints.
- Colors may fade over time, especially near the waterline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Interlux Micron CSC antifouling paint work on all hull materials?
Micron CSC is compatible with wood, fiberglass, and properly primed metal surfaces but should not be used on aluminum hulls or fittings due to potential corrosion risks.
Can this paint be applied over existing antifouling paint?
Yes, as long as the previous coating is intact and properly prepped. If the old paint is peeling or is in poor condition, it should be removed before applying Micron CSC.
What is the coverage area per gallon of Interlux Micron CSC?
When applied correctly, one gallon provides approximately 439.7 square feet of coverage.
